DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) -- As protests continue to erupt across the country amid the Breonna Taylor announcement, plans are being made to protest in Dayton. Several organizations are planning to come together Saturday afternoon for a rally in downtown Dayton. Rally organizers say they are hoping at least one thousand people gather at the federal courthouse on Saturday, demanding justice for Breonna Taylor. These organizers also planned the protest back in may that resulted in several arrests, now they tell me they have learned from that and are hoping for a different outcome this weekend. "She will not be a part of that community in Louisville, she will never be a part of her family again," Bishop Richard Cox said. Bishop Richard Cox with A Better Dayton Coalition is remembering the life of Breonna Taylor, saying the charges former officer, Brett Hankison is facing are not enough. "Wonton endangerment was a slap in the face to every African American family across this country," Bishop Cox said. "They should have been charged with manslaughter." He is now joining others like New Black Panther Party's Donald Domineck, planning a protest in Dayton over the weekend. They are calling for a peaceful but powerful event calling for justice. "I never want to encourage anyone to be violent but at the same time I’m understanding to the frustration," Domineck said. We asked Dayton Police Chief Richard Biehl about the protest planned for this weekend. "I think protests have been on our radar for months, so it's not something like, something we have ongoing attention to," Chief Biehl said. Domineck and Cox were both organizers of a protest in Dayton back in May, starting peacefully outside of the federal courthouse; but tension built quickly, as organizers say more people showed up than expected. "We did everything within our power, but things didn’t turn out as peaceful as we would have liked them to be," Domineck said. Dayton 24/7 Now's Chelsea Sick asked: "Did you all learn anything from the May rally that you feel will help you prepare for this one on Saturday?" "I have to be honest I wasn’t clear or I wasn’t clear enough that we wanted to have a peaceful, passionate demonstration," Domineck said. "What would be your message to those protesters now ahead of Saturday," Chelsea asked. "Let’s do this peaceful, let’s be strategic, the marches are only one piece to the big puzzle," Domineck said. The rally is scheduled for four in the afternoon on Saturday. Organizers say they plan to talk with Dayton Police ahead of the rally. We were the only local station at a news conference the organizers held this afternoon.
